About Ms. Grimstad
A Learning Experience that Changed Me:
Before I began my career in education, I was highly involved in politics in Minnesota. At 20 years old, I was working as Mark Dayton’s personal staffer on his campaign for Governor. I was put into a job that required an immense amount of responsibility and discipline. I was young and a little naive, but I learned so much about myself, what I wanted in a career, what type of working environment I wanted to be a part of, and what type of leaders I wanted to surround myself with. It gave me my current work ethic and built me into the professional that I am today, and I am forever grateful for that.
My Favorite Book:
Brain on Fire by Susannah Cahalan
My Hobbies and Interests:
Traveling, friends, family, hiking, biking, camping, floating the river, running, reading, road trips, snowshoeing, sports, art, good food, and being able to learn/experience something completely new.
Prior Experience in Education:
I began my career in education when I worked for an education non-profit in Denver called City Year; I was a mentor and tutor for 9th graders at North High School. I then taught Math Intervention for 6th-8th graders at Bruce Randolph Middle School before I became a full classroom teacher. I have spent the last three years teaching 10th and 12th grade math at Venture Prep High School.
Something Super-Unique About Me:
I hold a high school state basketball record for one of the highest 3-point percentages in a single season (51%).
Why I am Excited About Working at DSST:
I am excited to be a part of a respected community where I will be supported and pushed to be the best teacher I can be.
